Lotus and Poppy,

Concubines at Rest

There is a luxurious, sensual quiet to this picture that is unnerving.  The viewer is drawn to the mood, yet feels a tinge of embarrassment that he has yielded to sin.

Materials:  31 species of veneer.  Gloss lacquer finish.  Yunnan School.  Signed.  A collaboration.  1998.  Craftsman Gene Zanni.  48" x 48"

Wedding Dancers

Full of movement, excitement, and melody, Wedding Dancers was based on the pictorial legends found in the caves along the old silk road in Yunnan Province, PRC in the 1970's.  They inspired the "Yunnan School" style prominent among modern Chinese artists in the l980's and 90's.

Summer Song

Photography has not captured the true beauty of this image and the flashing brilliance of the veneer.  The sky, for example, looks like mother of pearl when lighted properly.
