MARQUETRY MURALS

Sandra Fennimore Lauser

Landscape

This was the first image produced in 1989-1990 by Sandy.  It was actually layers of plywood one on top of the other to give the illusion of landscape depth.  It began the idea that marquetry murals might be a market niche.  In the early 90's we used this and the pictures following to test the market, and that eventually led to Mao Jie and the Yunnan School style.

Heaven's Gate

This is the second image that Sandy and Gene put together as artist and craftsman.  In the intended installation, it took the place of "Landscape."  Its importance to us is that we began to see that fine art could come from wood veneer:  as always, fine art is dependent on the imagination and skill of the artist, but the medium can enhance.  We also discovered that lines between pieces is important.
